Research the experts found that women who consume lots of soy foods when aged 5-11 years, the risk for breast cancer will be reduced as much as 58 percent, than women who intake of soy was less than that. Risk reduction related to soy intake during adolescence and adulthood at around 25 percent. Soy intake in childhood was significantly associated with reduced risk of breast cancer in our study. That suggests that the timing of soy intake can be very influential, "says Larissa Korde, MD, MPH, Chair of clinical genetics research team Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention in Northem California Cancer Center.
The mechanism underlying the reduction in risk of breast cancer is unknown. However, Korde said that one hypothesis for the reduction of risk associated with soy intake in childhood is that soy isoflavones have esterogenik effects that cause changes in breast tissue, resulting in reduced sensitivity to carcinogens (cancer-causing ingredient).
Similar protective effects have been found in a variety of research on girls who are overweight, perhaps because fat tissue also secreting the hormone estrogen.
